If you look at it, it actually says that one Hirondelle doesn't make a spring. Hirondelle was a fine (albeit cheap) wine of the late 70's and early 80's much beloved of schoolboys of the period. One certainly wasn't enough to create any reaction. It was frequently necessary to consume the whole bottle to make anything happen ! HYPORRO : The state, when young, of lying on your back in a field looking up at the blue sky whilst under intoxication and knowing that the world is about to end but that you can't summon up the enthusiasm to do anything about it.
Right, I meant shallow : spring (water) :: swallow : spring (season). Lovely that you can accidentally change a letter and it still means the same thing!
Shallow, shallow... I only wish it were shallow! I have just spent the day clearing up mud & water after some disastrous flooding here in my Belgian village! Luckily, it wasn't my mud & water!

Yes, it does seem rather hard to swallow!
Does this mean that 'One Swallow doesn't make Summer'?
... and what doesn't make an Autumn? or doesn't make a Winter?
I feel a quiz coming on... :o)
That was great! Thanks

Yet, purely in aquatic terms, it really has the same, correct meaning!
A shallow really makes more of a trickle, not a spring. One must have more of a deep to get a spring, I would think.

Gill e-mails to say...
"Hoping that Boll Weavil is being sarcastic about Hirondelle being a 'fine wine'!
"When I worked at the Young Vic in the 70's we used to use it to strip paint off the stage ––– and it worked!!"

Accepted Gill - it's good to know it had a use ! To us, at the time, 'fine' and 'cheap' were interchangeable...
