COME ON IN!

Come in!

HAUNTED HOUSE
by
Jack Prelutsky

There's a house upon the hilltop
We will not go inside
For that is where the witches live,
Where ghosts and goblins hide.

Tonight they have their party,
All the lights are burning bright,
But oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

The demons there are whirling
And the spirits swirl about.
They sing their songs to Halloween.
"Come join the fun," they shout.

But we do not want to go there
So we run with all our might
And oh we will not go inside
The haunted house tonight.

  1. I wish I still had my Midnight Skulker costume (black cape, nefarious expression... Dracula-like accent -- "Good evening, would you like to step out for a bite?") It would be perfect for skulking around your Haunted House!

Actually, come to think of it, my accent likely more closely resembled the Count from Sesame Street. ;-)

  2. Gee, thanks. Think I'll turn off the door entry button and sit in the dark.

It really has become commercialism gone mad.

When I was a child, you dooked for apples and got toffee apples, end of story.

  3. Ooh, I can't wait for Halloween - in my school we had a dress-up and I came in as a tramp and I ended up eating SPAM and it made a horrible smell in the room!!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Halloween - and Halloween is actually Ollie Johnston's birthday!

  4. There's only one thing to do on Halloween - gather together around the fire for a viewing of 'The Halloween Tree' - magnificent !

  5. I watched The Rocky Horror Show last night, as my 'Halloween input'.
