This illustration of tree branches making up the words, “Happy New Year” was published in 1876 by Currier and Ives. The black and white lithograph was then hand-coloured by a series of Currier and Ives production artists, each artist colouring one item or items receiving the same colour.The popularity of Currier and Ives prints depicting Christmas and winter themes was immortalised in a line in the lyrics of the seasonal song, 'Sleigh Ride':
