PRAYER

One of a number of photos I took today at St John the Divine, Kennington. Quite striking, I think...

You will find more of David and my photographs taken today (and on many other days! ) on my Flickr Photostream.

  1. That is beautiful -- and shiver-down-the-spine inducing. Thank you for sharing it, Brian!

  3. David seems very intense in his prayers...

  4. Not David (and not St John the Divine either) but a sculpture of the BVM at the foot of the cross.

  5. Of course he is not David...;) I was doubting between Mary and John.

Now I know the author of that sculpture:

"The Kelham Rood is a beautiful life-size bronze sculpture of Christ on the Cross together with free-standing figures of St John and the Virgin Mary, and is the work of sculptor Charles Jagger (1885-1934)."

But, what is a anglo-catholic church??..."Daily worship is in the Catholic tradition"... but not under the Roman Catholic dogma and goverment?

  6. Forgive me, Eudora, for taking you literally... :)

As you rightly say, it is the figure of Mary in the Kelham Rood group. Anglo-Catholic? Yes, as you describe it.

The house we lived in until our recent, temporary, move (and to which we will return early next year) is next door to the church of St John the Divine.
