The question is why one would want to sit on a sofa that made you feel you were still on the tube, but to each his own and I suppose the experience could be further enhanced with a few lager cans, a bag of half-eaten KFC, a not-quite-empty Macdonald's milkshake container and a scattering of day-old Metros.
Then invite a large crowd of tired, cross and sweaty strangers in for the evening and your sitting room could become a standing room only!
Perfect!

You forgot scratchy! Actually, living in Belgium, I heard about this some time ago - I think there was a thing on the news or some other BBC programme!
nethersa: the sensation one gets from sitting on said material
Do they also sell a recording of someone saying 'Mind the Gap'?
Well, it would certainly be hard-wearing. And if you happened to spill half a Supreme Pizza, nobody would ever know...
Good comments, folks! It also suggests to me that to complete the experience one might need to introduce appropriate hazards such as chewing-gum and even insect life...
I knew of someone who got a flea-bite while riding on the underground and wrote to complain. A letter of apology duly came back from London Transport to which her original letter of complaint was inadvertently attached and on which someone at LT had scribbled: "Send standard flea letter".
Jeez... is that what it looks like when it's clean? In which case, you can kind of see the point.
