While rummaging through some old photos and saving them to my flickr photostream, I came across a number of pictorial memories from 2001 when, en route to Wellington, New Zealand, I stopped off for a few days in Sydney, Australia.
I will never forget checking into the Park Hyatt Hotel in the shadow of the famous Harbour Bridge and finding – to my utter delight – that the view from my bedroom window was of the famous Sydney Opera House. Over the next few days I photographed Danish architect Jørn Utzon's amazing building, literally, morning, noon and night!
Here are a few of those operatic settings...

Wow! It's like a modern take on Monet's (do I mean Monet?) gardens!
Suzanne – Not sure we're in quite the same league (!), but, yes, you do mean Monet who, in addition to those paintings of his garden in Giverny, painted serial views of haystacks, Rouen Cathedral and London's Houses of Parliament.

"What amazing pictures! It is like a gigantic flower opening petal by petal! Lovely!"
Sounds beautiful going to the Sydney Opera House - although I've never been to Australia and I've always thought it be interesting being in the Southern Hemisphere.
Fandabidosi (sorry - I'm probably the only Sibley Blog enthusiast who is familiar with the Krankies!)
It certainly gives you a yearn to visit Sydney.
Terrific pics.
STEVEN - Sydney is a beautiful and vibrant city and the water really does go down the plug-hole the wrong way! Also, because the moon is 'upside down', they don't have a concept of the Man in the Moon!
Sharon – Qui êtes le Krankies?
Absolutely beautiful pictures, Mr. S. I've never been but I would love to go and see it for myself some day. Especially if it looks half as pretty in the flesh (concrete, whatever it's made of) as it does in your photos.

Voila!
John – Thanks for the compliment! It is an amazing building in the heart of an amazing city. I'd love to go back there one day...
Sharon – Ah, the memories!!
You are quite the photographer, Brian! Thanks for including these shots...makes me want to get over (up?) to Oz sooner rather than later! (But first, the South Island!)
Thanks, Ryan. A lot of it is down to artful cropping! I envy you your exploration of the South Island of NZ. Oz can wait! But there really is something about Sydney...
