GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Every day, great and small dramas are unfolding in our world and to the folk involved the smaller ones are just as traumatic and potentially life-shaping as those with historic implications or global repercussions...

Here, sellotaped to a lamp-post in our road, is the tale of a tiny tragedy, the scars of which will unquestionably remain for years...

GILL writes...

"Oh please get David to cast a magic spell to find Wuffi. I shan't be able to sleep for worrying.

"My own Teddy Tush [named after Mr Tushingham who gave him to me] has been with me all my life, and he will be worrying too.

"Citizens of SW9 unite! Find the lost toy!"

I know how Gill feels and Buttons is beside himself...

Thirty years after the accident, its still talked about in a respectful and reverential way. It is the day that my brothers teddy was put, temporarily, on the roof of our car and not recovered before we drove off. Of course we went back but to no avail.... Such traumas are not easily forgotten - the child won't allow it for one thing. I feel for the parents of the little one on the poster. They must be getting some earache right now.

The demise of my own childhood companions cannot even be written about, it was so terrible...

Can't Buttons organise a search - like the dogs did in 101 Dalmations?

i feel such a lucky bear that suzanne held on to me all these years! i may be battered and bashed and literally coming apart at the seams, but she still loves me and i still have pride of place on her bedside table!

Oh, how sad... yet oddly cute... in a tragic way.

A couple of years back I discovered that after all the times we moved houses, and all the times I had t trash my comics and toys, my mother still kept all our teddies and bunnies, and even the doll my sister had that I drew glasses with a biro.

Bizarrely, there is a MISSING poster taken to the lamp post here in Mill Hill asking is anyone has seen a family's lost tortoise.

How far could it have got?
