NEW YORK, NEW YORK

I drove into New York City listening to the inauguration of President Obama on the car radio.

I was very moved by the ceremony and by the fact that my driver was - like many Americans today - euphoric!

It's beautifully snowy in Central Park....

And the photographers are definitely OUT!

And here's buttons take on the snow.

I listened to the Obama acceptance speech and found it moving - though, understandably for such an occasion, shorter on substance than on rhetoric. Most telling for me was his comment that, 60 years ago, his own father would not have been served in many US restaurants. That is (only just) within my lifetime! If the USA can travel as far in the next 60 years there is hope for optimism! We have a truly liberal President in the White House - good luck to him!!

Well that was a nice start to your visit to NY. As well as arriving in the middle of such an historic event, you also managed quick-time to find a male model to snap - hope he didn't end up with frozen assets!
Just be extra careful walking about in the icy conditions and remember to keep stifling any yawns.

POLKADOTSOPH - Natch!

ROB - True (about the rhetoric over the content) but after the clutzy speeches of GWB, I guess stirring rhetoric can't help but sound a bit like content... And with your hand on Abe Lincoln's Bible, I guess it's pretty much expected...

Tell Mandy I've charged her phone, worked out how to turn it on (in itself no mean achievement) and that all I now have to do is find a store that sells Trakfone cards - less easy as my street comprises big hotels, art boutiques and Donald Trump's head offices...

Managed to find an international phone card but my hotel switchboard blocked its use - or I'm so inept I was using it WRONGLY - which is more than likely!

LISAH - Thanks for the reminder - I was actually taking little-old-granny steps and keeping my jaw tightly clenched. The model and his photographer-chum must have thought me a sad old pervert: hobbling about Central Park on a walking stick, taking snaps of folks' innocent games... :-)

RYAN - Thanks for the welcome - sorry I'm too far away to visit...

ELLIOT - Got your message - am off to do my Snow White Disney DVD interview shortly and (as you'll see from a reply above) am hopeless about coping with foreign communications but will try to ring you asap. You wouldn't believe what the hotel charge for calls - although you probably WOULD!

I'm staying at the Jumeirah Essex House on Central Park South: 212-247-0300.

Hope we can meet up...
