HIGHLY STRUNG

After watching Pinocchio you could haul out the old tool box and have a go at being Geppetto by simply following these not-quite-so-simple instructions, published in Popular Science in February 1940 and written, I notice, by some long-lost relative of mine, Hi Sibley...

Good luck! And if you make one and it turns into a real boy, please let us know...

I think I'll stick to knitting him a jumper!
ababing: an exclamation of joy after having successfully followed a series of extremely complicated instructions

what a terrific thing! And incredibly complicated. But the very fact they published it showed they thought someone might make it.

I almost fancy having a go just because it looks so impossible.

Go for it, ALEX! And then SUZANNE will knit you a jumper for him!

Then all you have to do is spot the Wishing Star, say the magic words -- "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might have the wish I wish tonight" -- and then wait for the Blue Fairy to show up... Couldn't be simpler!
