KNOW THY ENEMY

The Greeks say...

An open
ENEMY
is better
than a
false
FRIEND...

And they also warn...

One WITNESS: one LIAR;
More WITNESSES: all LIARS!

To which I'd like to add a Greek proverb of my own devising...

There is little to choose between the

BROKEN BOAT

and the

TETHERED DONKEY!

As with anywhere, Kalymnos can be a place of striking contrasts and this donkey was clearly a far less happy animal than the contented creature pictured the other day. Life can, after all, be good or bad for any of us - even donkeys...

I can't see the rope tethering the donkey!... Did it have its front paws tied together as they do in Morocco with camels? (I don't mean camels, but I can't think of the English word for dromadaires!)
Lovely photo nevertheless.

Too true. A friend is just back from China where a trip to the zoo turned very quickly from a pleasant day out to a mini horror show.

SUZANNE - The tether is on the hoof that looks most awkward. In the full-on heat of the midday sun, the animal's evident distress was terrible...

I stayed in Emborios a few years ago and remember seeing two little cats. One was fine, but the other - probably a brother or sister - was so poorly and seemed to be about to die.
