EYE-SIGHTS

As you may have gathered, we were recently in---

ATHENS, the eye of Greece, mother of arts
And eloquence...

...as JOHN MILTON described it in Paradise Lost (bk IV, l. 240).

Well, here are a few eye-sights -- and eye-sites...

Athens is littered with odds...


And (literally) ends...


There are trees - and (for obvious reasons now) fire-extinguishers...


Athens also has a lot of churches: almost exclusively Greek Orthodox that are dimly-lit, icon-filled holy places rightly not accessible to shorts-wearing tourists...


And where there's a church there is usually also a palm...


There are Christian things with wings...


As well as winged monsters...


There are cute little blue tourist trains...


And the best metro system imaginable with a spotlessly clean, light, airy underground network with full disabled access to every platform level and archaeological excavations on permanent display...


There are also men doing silly walks that are even sillier than the silliest walk by John Cleese...


And high-kicks that would be the envy of any Can-Can girl at the Moulin Rouge...
