Just heard on Woman's Hour (Radio 4), during a discussion with a Cambridge historian about the background to Monteverdi's opera The Coronation of Poppea which has, as its central character, the second wife of the Emperor Nero:
"Nero got too much too young - it was a kind of Brittany Spears situation."
Whoever said ancient history was dull?!

I suggest that ancient history is a great deal less dull than Brittany Spears!
True, but it may be safer if she's not let anywhere near Rome with a box of matches...
