CHEWING THE FAT

Someone has just sent me an e-mail offering knock-down prices on a product pleasantly-named Fat Blaster - which, said quickly, sounds oddly like “Fat B*s*a*d”!

Or maybe that’s just the over-reaction of a guilt-ridden fatty...

Anyway, the seller has curiously embellished his or her mailing with the following collections of saws and sayings ranging from Anon to Ben Franklin:

“Admiration is the daughter of ignorance.”

“The best of men are but men at best.”

“Children Have Wide Ears and Long Tongues.”

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”

Which is predictably juxtaposed with---

“Love is blind.”

There is also a quote from the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 6, which lists God’s seven most abominated abominations, including:

“A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren…”

Er… what, like spam-peddlers, perhaps?

If so, then I'll leave the Almighty to deal with 'Fat Blasters' and have another slice of cake!

Cook's work is used by Nottingham City Transport (I don't know whether they're specially commissioned or not) so these very distinctive characters are quite likely to come passing your car window in six foot high images on the side of buses. They really brighten the place up.

Every time the name BOL WEAVIL comes up in my mail box, I want to SING it --- to the tune of 'Goldfinger':

"Bol Weavil, he's the man..."

Back in the 1989, we recorded a song called 'Evil Weavil' which was in the style of early American dustbowl music. Our objective was to slip the track (suitably downgraded in sound quality and with added crackles)into a tape of the recently released Folkways Archive album and give it to friends to see if it would pass undetected.A large part of the bands catalogue contains similar items which just seemed, to the composers, like 'a good idea at the time'.

I love that painting - how cute!
I wouldn't buy a product called Fat B*s*a*d either. And you're not fat, silly. :)

That's true, Anne; the word the doctors used when I was in hospital recently was 'obese'!

Oh, poppycock! You should give that "doctor" a bad review for overacting. :)
